Overview
About the Tesla Wall Connector
The Tesla Wall Connector is Australia's most commonly installed home charger, and it charges any Type 2 EV. It has a tethered 7.3m cable, Wi-Fi firmware updates and power sharing.
Key features
- Power sharing across up to 6 units
- Wi-Fi and over-the-air firmware
- 7.3m tethered cable
Power options
- Single phase, current set at commissioning
- Three phase where supply and car support it
- Commissioning wizard sets current to match breaker
Charging speed
Single phase (up to ~7.4kW, roughly 32km of range per hour) or three phase (up to 22kW, though most Australian EVs cap the useful rate at 11kW, around 45–55km per hour). The Wall Connector's own limit is set by the circuit breaker installed, not the unit itself.
Smart app features
- Scheduled departure and charge limits set from the Tesla app
- Live power sharing status across grouped units
- Automatic firmware updates over Wi-Fi
- Charging history synced with the vehicle, not a separate charger login
App and control
Tesla app for scheduling and charge limits. Wi-Fi is for firmware; charging works without it.
Solar compatibility
No built-in solar surplus mode — for solar priority, Zappi or Fronius Wattpilot is the better fit.
Warranty
Tesla's published residential warranty term applies. We register the unit and provide documentation at handover.
Who it suits
Tesla households, or anyone wanting a tethered cable and set-and-forget operation.
Pros
- Tethered 7.3m cable
- Power sharing across multiple units
- Over-the-air firmware updates
- Very low-profile appearance
- Works with any Type 2 EV
Things to consider
- No built-in solar surplus mode
- Deepest app integration is with Tesla
- Cable length fixed at installation
Installation requirements
- Dedicated circuit sized to current
- Switchboard capacity or upgrade path
- Residual current protection as specified
- Agreed mounting surface and cable route
- Certified installation to AS/NZS 3000
Why we recommend it
For a Tesla household without solar priorities, it's the tidiest, best-value option, and power sharing solves the two-car problem.
Best for: Tesla households wanting the cleanest look and app integration.
Installation
How it goes in
Every charger we supply is installed on a dedicated, protected circuit and certified on completion.
